Monthly Gundam Ace announced that it, along with another magazine, Newtype will be worling together on a new manga magazine. Gundam Ace and Newtype publisher Kadokawa Shoten revealed that this magazine will feature manga franchises from other media. These could include Sunrise's Sacred Seven and BONES' upcoming anime film series Towa no Quon. The new magazine is scheduled to be out this summer.
Monthly Gundam Ace also announced that Hiroyuki Kitazume will be drawing a new manga adaptation of the robot anime series Mobile Suit Z Gundam. The manga will be out by May of this year. Kitazume is no stranger to the Gundam series as he has worked as animation director for the Z Gundam Anime Series. Kitazume also designed the characters for the Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack and Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ sequels.
Kenichi Matsuzaki is the acting supervisor of the new manga. Matsuzaki has worked on the Gundam series before as scriptwriter and is credited with creating many concepts found in the manga such as the anime's version of the space colonies, the Minovsky particle, and the Solar System weapon. His art was also featured in the Gundam Ace's inaugural issue in 2001. He was the artist in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Deleted Affair—Portrait of Young Comet.
While there are no details yet on how close the manga will be following the anime series, it would be logical to think that it will be based on the conflict between the Titans and the forces of the Anti-Earth Union Group.
The anime Mobile Suit Z Gundam is a mecha-themed anime which those who like science fiction and action will enjoy. The series is set in Universal Century 0087, seven years after the end of the One year War. In its efforts to completely eliminate the opposition, the Earth Federation organize the Titans, an elite force. The Titans however get drunk on their power and commit atrocities which mirror those committed by their enemies in the previous war. As a result, a resistance group called the Anti-Earth Union Group is formed to combat them.
